The Beat Medical Community — Dyspraxia's Top Tips
Dyspraxia app access to Android through Vhi partnership
In an exciting move, we have extended our partnership with Vhi, the country’s largest private health insurer. Following the successful launch of the Beats Medical Dyspraxia App on Apple devices in 2018, we are expanding to provide access to our innovative therapy technology for children with Dyspraxia on Android devices for the first time, providing access to digital therapies to more Irish children than ever before.
Dyspraxia, sometimes referred to as ‘Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD),’ is believed to impact almost 8-10% of children. Dyspraxia can impact children’s speech, fine and gross motor skills including; walking, coordination, balance, dexterity, handwriting and communication. Physiotherapy, speech and occupational therapy has been shown to help promote the development of these skills.
As the demand for digital health increases with the challenges being faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, access to at-home solutions like the Beats Medical Dyspraxia App is becoming more important to parents and children. To support this need, Beats Medical and Vhi have extended their partnership, continuing to support users of Apple devices, while also offering the space-themed games, designed to support children with Dyspraxia in building crucial skills, on Android devices for the first time.
Commenting on the launch of the service on another mobile platform and the extended partnership with Vhi, Dr Ciara Clancy, Beats Medical CEO said, “We are delighted to expand our Dyspraxia app to Android for the first time. The service helps to address an important need for families, to help children with Dyspraxia in their early years. It acts as a support for children in a fun and interactive way, aiming to make at-home therapies engaging and enjoyable. Our products do not replace specialist care but augment it at this challenging time for our healthcare systems. By providing this support now on Android devices too, we feel we can help more Irish parents and children.”
The product, which provides interactive games and exercises to promote development through smartphones, will be reimbursed by Vhi and made available to all Vhi customers on hospital plans at a discounted rate of €50 to members.
Maeve O’Gorman, Head of Digital, Vhi said “Vhi is delighted to continue our partnership with Beats Medical to support our customers through digital health technologies. With the addition of support for the Dyspraxia application on Android devices, even more parents and children can benefit from this innovative solution.”
